Modern Window Shades with Linear Elements
Often, when we talk about interior design, our minds go to the style of the décor overall or the color palette in use. And while those elements are key, there are also design features that are equally important because they help us establish a feel in the room and lead the eye through the space - we’re talking about sight lines. Modern window shades are one tool you can use to utilize linear design in a room that also has functional benefits.
Drapery Prints with Linear Inspiration
The flowing fabrics of drapery make an excellent canvas to play with linear designs. They are a visually dominant element within the space and have a reaching effect on décor.
Long, vertical lines on modern window shades can make a room feel more open while horizontal lines play with the perception of room length plus the textiles themselves provide light-control and privacy for residents. With Design Studio™ Custom Drapes, Hunter Douglas has collaborated with several modern textile artists including Seema Krish, Marcie Bronkar, and Rebecca Atwood to create high-end linear prints for their modern window shades.
- When describing her linear fabric design, Straits, Seema Krish said, "The repetition created by the varying widths of this monochrome stripe is bold yet harmonious, giving a space a relaxed feel. The texture is reminiscent of traditional ikat dyeing techniques, enhancing the fabric’s overall look."
- In the Rebecca Atwood collection, there are several modern interpretations of linear design including Dotted Stripe, which Atwood described when she said, "I find painting stripes to be meditative and calming, and I think they can have that effect on a room as well. The subtle watercolor texture in this stripe was finished by painting little dots in between each line to add a soft fluid motion."
Soft Lines with Sheer Shades
Sheer textiles add a wonderful depth to interior design with their diaphanous nature. They’re an excellent fabric for modern window shades especially in rooms with abundant sunlight as they can filter the natural rays to create a warm and welcoming ambiance.
